*Did you know?*
Josiah was only 8 years old when he became king of Judah (2 Kings 22:1). He grew up to be one of Judah’s best kings, cleaning up idol worship and rediscovering God’s law. No one is too small to be used by God
*Prayer for Children*
Psalm 91:11-12
11 For he shall give his angels charge over thee, to keep thee in all thy ways.
12 They shall bear thee up in their hands, lest thou dash thy foot against a stone.
*Sermon:* Good day, beloved. Today, we will be praying concerning a matter close to every heart—the protection of our children. In a world that often feels uncertain, with challenges like digital dangers, societal pressures, and even physical threats, we may wonder: How do we shield our children? The answer lies not in our strength alone but in the unshakable promise of God’s divine protection. Today, let us explore how God’s Word assures us that He is a fortress for our children and how we, as a church and family, can partner with Him to keep them safe.
Psalm 91 is a powerful reminder of God’s commitment to safeguarding those who dwell in His presence. Verse 11 tells us that God commands His angels to guard us—and this includes our children. From the moment they are born, our children are under the watchful eye of the Creator. He knows every step they take, every fear they face, and every danger that lurks.
Consider the story of Moses, hidden in a basket among the reeds (Exodus 2:3-10). In a time of great peril, when Pharaoh sought to kill Hebrew boys, God protected Moses, guiding him to Pharaoh’s own daughter. This wasn’t mere chance—it was divine orchestration. God’s protection is active, intentional, and personal. He sees our children in their schools, on their playgrounds, and even in the quiet of their rooms, and for those whose Children are adults never forget that it was God who has kept them all this long. His angels encamp around them, shielding them from harm seen and unseen. The digital age exposes them to cyberbullying, inappropriate content, and predators hiding behind screens. The world tempts them with values that clash with God’s truth—materialism, selfishness, and moral compromise. Physical dangers, too, loom—whether through illness, accidents, or violence. And let us not forget the spiritual battles, where the enemy seeks to steal their faith, kill their hope, and destroy their purpose (John 10:10).
Yet, in the face of these storms, we are not powerless. God’s Word in Isaiah 54:17 declares, “No weapon forged against you will prevail.” This promise extends to our children. While the world may rage, God’s protection is greater. As parents, guardians, and a church community, we are called to trust in this promise and act as stewards of their safety.
*Our Role in God’s Protection Plan*
While God’s protection is sovereign, He invites us to partner with Him. How do we do this?
i. *Cover Them in Prayer:*
Prayer is our greatest weapon. Ephesians 6:18 urges us to “pray in the Spirit on all occasions with all kinds of prayers.” Pray daily for your children—mention their names before God. I remember watching my Mom praying for us in prayer meetings with our pictures, it makes sense now when I look at where I am and what I am today.
*Teach Them God’s Word:*
Deuteronomy 6:6-7 instructs us to impress God’s commandments on our children, talking about them at home, on the road, morning and night. The Word is a lamp to their feet (Psalm 119:105), guiding them through life’s temptations and trials. Teach them to trust God, to know His voice, and to stand on His promises. A child rooted in Scripture is a child equipped to face the world.
iii. *Live the life you want your Children to live:*
Our children watch us. They learn from our actions more than our words. Live a life that reflects trust in God’s protection. Show them how to make wise choices—whether it’s monitoring their screen time, choosing godly friends, or seeking help when overwhelmed. Proverbs 22:6 reminds us, “Train up a child in the way he should go, and when he is old he will not depart from it.” Live the life you want your children to live. If they must become anything, it must not be lower than the standard that you have set.
