The first step in raising children with Godly character is to model it ourselves.

In the days of Paul Corinth was a bustling, cosmopolitan port city known for its wealth, diversity, and moral laxity. The church reflected this diversity, including Jews, Gentiles, rich, poor, and former pagans. This mix led to unique challenges, such as factions (1 Cor. 1:10-12), lawsuits among believers (1 Cor. 6:1-8), and even misuse of spiritual gifts (1 Cor. 12-14), which Paul addresses directly.

Be ye followers of me, even as I also am of Christ.
*Sermon:* The first step in raising children with Godly character is to model it ourselves. Children are like sponges—they absorb what they see and hear. They learn more from our actions than our words. If we want our children to be honest, we must be truthful. If we want them to be kind, we must show compassion. If we want them to love God, they must see us pursuing Him with passion and devotion.
Ask yourself: What kind of example am I setting? Do my children see me praying, reading the Bible, and seeking God’s will? Do they witness me handling conflict with grace, forgiving others, and living with integrity? Parents, we cannot expect our children to develop godly character if we do not first embody it. As Paul said, “Follow my example, as I follow the example of Christ.” Let’s commit to being imitators of Christ so our children can imitate us.
The second principle is to teach our children the Word of God. Godly character is built on the foundation of Scripture. The Bible is not just a book of stories—it’s a guide for life, revealing God’s heart and His standards for righteousness. Deuteronomy 6 calls us to impress God’s commands on our children, not just occasionally, but constantly—in every moment of life.
This means we must be intentional about teaching our children biblical truths. Share stories of God’s faithfulness. Explain what it means to love your neighbor as yourself. Teach them to pray, to trust God in hard times, and to seek His guidance. The world will teach them its values through media, peers, and culture, but we must counter that with the truth of God’s Word.
