Gideon was a fearful young man hiding from the Midianites, but one night with God turned him into a terror to darkness.
*Did you know?*
In Hebrew, GIDEON (גִּדְעוֹן) means:
“Feller” i.e “One who cuts down”
“Hewer” i.e “Destroyer of idols”
“Mighty warrior” i.e “Valiant man of war”

Judges 6:28-40
And when the men of the city arose early in the morning, behold, the altar of Baal was cast down, and the grove was cut down that was by it, and the second bullock was offered upon the altar that was built.
29 And they said one to another, Who hath done this thing? And when they enquired and asked, they said, Gideon the son of Joash hath done this thing.
30 Then the men of the city said unto Joash, Bring out thy son, that he may die: because he hath cast down the altar of Baal, and because he hath cut down the grove that was by it.
31 And Joash said unto all that stood against him, Will ye plead for Baal? will ye save him? he that will plead for him, let him be put to death whilst it is yet morning: if he be a god, let him plead for himself, because one hath cast down his altar.
32 Therefore on that day he called him Jerubbaal, saying, Let Baal plead against him, because he hath thrown down his altar.
33 Then all the Midianites and the Amalekites and the children of the east were gathered together, and went over, and pitched in the valley of Jezreel.
34 But the Spirit of the Lord came upon Gideon, and he blew a trumpet; and Abiezer was gathered after him.
35 And he sent messengers throughout all Manasseh; who also was gathered after him: and he sent messengers unto Asher, and unto Zebulun, and unto Naphtali; and they came up to meet them.
36 And Gideon said unto God, If thou wilt save Israel by mine hand, as thou hast said,
37 Behold, I will put a fleece of wool in the floor; and if the dew be on the fleece only, and it be dry upon all the earth beside, then shall I know that thou wilt save Israel by mine hand, as thou hast said.
38 And it was so: for he rose up early on the morrow, and thrust the fleece together, and wringed the dew out of the fleece, a bowl full of water.
39 And Gideon said unto God, Let not thine anger be hot against me, and I will speak but this once: let me prove, I pray thee, but this once with the fleece; let it now be dry only upon the fleece, and upon all the ground let there be dew.
40 And God did so that night: for it was dry upon the fleece only, and there was dew on all the ground.
*Sermon:* Beloved, there are altars speaking against your destiny right now!
There are evil covenants your fathers entered into that may still be working against you!
There are idols in your family compound, in your village, in your father’s house, even in your own heart that must come down TODAY!
Gideon was a fearful young man hiding from the Midianites, but one night with God turned him into a terror to darkness.
Tonight, the same God will visit you and give you BOLDNESS to destroy every evil altar!
*POINT 1:* *RECOGNIZE THE ALTAR THAT IS ROBBING YOU (vv. 28–29)*
The altar of Baal was not in Baal’s temple; it was in Gideon’s father’s backyard!
Many of you are suffering because the strongest altar against you is in your family!
That ancestral shrine, that occultic ring, that charm buried under the tree, that forbidden name you still bear—IT IS AN ALTAR!
The men of the city woke up and saw the altar BROKEN. May every satanic altar against your life be exposed and shattered this week in Jesus’ name!
*POINT 2: SOMEONE MUST TAKE RESPONSIBILITY—IT’S YOU!* (v. 29)
They asked, “Who hath done this thing?” and the answer was clear: “Gideon the son of Joash!”
Stop waiting for your pastor, your prophet, or your mummy to destroy the altar for you. GOD IS LOOKING FOR A GIDEON IN YOUR FAMILY!
You are the delivered son/daughter! You are the one carrying fire!
If you don’t rise, your children will keep suffering the same cycle of poverty, sickness, and untimely death!
*POINT 3: EXPECT OPPOSITION—EVEN FROM YOUR OWN HOUSE (v. 30)*
The same people who were oppressed by Midian now wanted to kill Gideon for destroying Baal!
When you start breaking evil covenants, your own relatives will fight you!
They will say: “Are you the only Christian? Leave our tradition alone!”
But hear the word of the Lord: ANYONE WHO STANDS AGAINST YOUR OBEDIENCE SHALL BE DISGRACED!
*POINT 4: LET GOD FIGHT FOR YOU—DON’T ARGUE WITH IDOL WORSHIPPERS (v. 31)*
Joash gave the greatest reply in Scripture: “If Baal be a god, let him fight for himself!”
Stop explaining yourself to witches! Stop begging family members to understand your faith!
After you destroy the altar, keep quiet and watch God disgrace the devil!
Every power asking “Who did this?” shall be put to shame in Jesus’ name!
*POINT 5: THE SPIRIT OF GOD WILL CLOTHE YOU FOR BATTLE (v. 34)*
The Bible says the Spirit of the LORD “came upon” Gideon—literally, “clothed himself with Gideon!”
You are not fighting in your own strength! When you dare to destroy evil altars, heaven will back you with angelic reinforcement!
That night Gideon blew the trumpet and the whole tribe followed him. May heaven raise helpers for you this week!
*POINT 6: IF YOU STILL DOUBT, ASK GOD FOR A SIGN (vv. 36–40)*
Gideon asked for the fleece TWICE. God was not angry—He answered BOTH times!
Some of you are afraid: “What if I break this covenant and something bad happens?”
Ask God for confirmation! He is merciful. He will give you dew on the fleece, then dryness on the fleece—He will settle your heart!
But after the sign, NO MORE EXCUSES! Move and destroy that altar!
*HOW TO DESTROY EVIL ALTARS PRACTICALLY*
Repent totally — Confess every known sin and involvement with idolatry (1 John 1:9).
Renounce every covenant — Verbally break every soul-tie, blood covenant, incision, evil dedication.
Prayer: “I renounce every covenant with marine spirits, witchcraft, ancestral spirits in Jesus’ name!”
Destroy physical objects — Burn every charm, occultic book, idolatrous jewelry, ancestral calabash—DON’T SELL THEM! (Acts 19:19).
Anoint your house and compound with oil, pleading the blood of Jesus.
Raise a new altar to God — Gideon offered the second bullock on a new altar. Begin daily prayer, fasting, and giving in your house.
Keep standing — The Midianites gathered in verse 33, but Gideon had already won the spiritual battle by destroying the altar!
As you Pray these Prayer points today, every evil altar working against you today will be obliterated totally in the name of Jesus
NB: Repeat each prayer point out loud three times, anoint your head and your feet.

1. Thank God for his mercies upon your life he is worthy to be praised
2. Father, by the blood of Jesus, I command every evil altar speaking against my life to CATCH FIRE NOW in Jesus’ name!
3. Every ancestral altar drinking my blood every midnight, ROAST by thunder in Jesus’ name!
4. Altars of Baal in my father’s house, I overthrow you by the Gideon anointing! CRUMBLE TO ASHES!
5. Every idol in my village demanding worship, your time is up—be paralyzed forever in Jesus’ name!
6. Marine altars controlling my marriage/marital destiny, I release the east wind of God to scatter you right now!
7. Every satanic priest ministering on evil altars against my destiny, SOMERSAULT AND DIE in Jesus’ name!
8. Covenants made with idols over my head at birth, blood of Jesus, erase them totally!
9. Every evil grove where my name is mentioned, angelic bulldozers, uproot them now!
10. Idols of my father’s house boasting against my breakthrough, be disgraced!
11. Every charm, incision, or evil dedication tying me to altars, fire of God, burn them to nothing!
12. Altars of delay and stagnation erected against my glory, I smash you with the hammer of God!
13. Every territorial altar blocking my visa, contract, womb, collapse by earthquake in Jesus’ name!
14. I retrieve my star from every evil altar by the hand of divine judgment! Release me now!
15. Every altar of sickness feeding on my body, receive the leprosy of Naaman and dry up!
16. Idolatrous names given to me at birth, I reject and rename myself “Child of the Most High”!
17. Every evil altar raised against my children, backfire sevenfold in Jesus’ name!
18. Altars of poverty in my foundation, I command holy ghost dynamite to explode you!
19. Every monitoring mirror on demonic altars watching me, shatter to pieces right now!
20. I raise a new altar of fire unto Jehovah over my life—every old altar, bow to the new one!
21. Spirit of boldness and strength, possess me afresh like Gideon! Make me a terror to every evil altar in Jesus’ name!
22. By the authority of the risen Christ, I decree: No altar shall rise again in my territory!
23. O God of Elijah, answer me by fire today—let the whole world know You alone are God over my life!
