**Quote of the Day**
God's mercy is not limited by our past, our reputation, or our nationality
**Did you know?**
Rahab was the first recorded Gentile convert — As a Canaanite (an “outsider” and enemy of Israel), Rahab turned from her pagan gods to the God of Israel, declaring, “The Lord your God is God in heaven above and on the earth below” (Joshua 2:11). She fully joined the people of Israel and lived among them afterward.
**Sermon:**
Beloved, welcome to **Day 39** of our transformative journey in the **40 Days of Mercy**! Today we anchor in the powerful story of Rahab in **Joshua 2:1-21** — a remarkable display of God's unexpected mercy extended to a Canaanite prostitute in the doomed city of Jericho.
“Then Joshua son of Nun secretly sent two spies from Shittim. ‘Go, look over the land,’ he said, ‘especially Jericho.’ So they went and entered the house of a prostitute named Rahab and stayed there.” (Joshua 2:1, NIV).
Rahab, living in Jericho — a city marked for judgment because of its wickedness — heard reports of the God of Israel: how He dried up the Red Sea and defeated mighty kings. Her heart responded in faith: “For the Lord your God is God in heaven above and on the earth below” (Joshua 2:11). Despite her profession and pagan background, she hid the Israelite spies at great personal risk, lied to protect them, and boldly negotiated for the safety of her entire household.
She asked the spies to “swear to me by the Lord that you will show kindness (mercy) to my family” (Joshua 2:12). They agreed, promising that when Israel conquered the land, her family would be spared if she hung a scarlet cord in her window — a visible sign of faith and covenant. Rahab’s house, built into the city wall, became a place of refuge and deliverance while judgment fell on Jericho.
This story beautifully illustrates that **God's mercy is not limited by our past, our reputation, or our nationality**. Rahab was an unlikely candidate — a Gentile, a harlot, living in a condemned city — yet her faith in the true God moved Heaven to show her extraordinary kindness. She did not receive the judgment she might have deserved; instead, she received mercy that saved her life and integrated her into the lineage of Israel. Rahab later became the mother of Boaz, and thus an ancestor in the line of David and ultimately Jesus Christ (Matthew 1:5).
Beloved, in these closing days of our 40 Days of Mercy, Rahab’s encounter reminds us that no one is beyond the reach of God’s compassion. If He could extend mercy to Rahab in the midst of impending destruction, He can reach you today — no matter the stains of your past, the shame you carry, or the walls that seem to trap you. True faith activates mercy. When we acknowledge who God is and act on that belief, He responds with covenant kindness.
This mercy is not only for personal rescue — it transforms us. Rahab moved from hiding spies to becoming a testimony of salvation. God can take our broken stories and weave them into His redemptive plan. Let go of self-condemnation. Come to the God who delights in showing mercy to the undeserving. Hang your own “scarlet cord” of faith today — declare your trust in the blood of Jesus that marks you for deliverance.
As you meditate on Joshua 2:1-21, allow the Holy Spirit to stir fresh faith in you. Receive God’s mercy afresh, and rise ready to extend that same compassion to others. This is the heartbeat of our 40 Days of Mercy: encountering the God who saves unlikely people and empowers us to live as agents of His kindness.
May the story of Rahab ignite in you a deeper confidence in God’s unfailing mercy!
As you pray these points with faith, ask the Lord to apply the truths of Joshua 2 to your life — extending His mercy to you, marking you for protection, and using you as a vessel of compassion.
**Prayer Points**
1. Heavenly Father, just as You showed mercy to Rahab in Joshua 2, have mercy on me according to Your great compassion, in Jesus' name!
2. Lord, I declare like Rahab that You are God in heaven above and on the earth below — let this faith activate Your mercy in my life (Joshua 2:11).
3. Merciful God, hide me and my household under Your protection even when judgment or challenges surround me, as You did for Rahab.
4. Father, blot out every stain of my past — my failures, shame, or unworthy background — and extend Your kindness to me as You did to Rahab.
5. Lord, help me to act courageously in faith like Rahab, even when it involves risk, knowing Your mercy will sustain me.
6. By Your mercy, spare my family and loved ones; let no destruction come near our dwelling place.
7. O God, mark me with the blood of Jesus — my scarlet cord of deliverance — so that mercy and protection follow me everywhere.
8. Create in me a heart of bold confession and faith, that I may openly acknowledge You as the only true God.
9. Deliver me from any spirit of fear or compromise; fill me with the courage Rahab displayed in protecting Your servants.
10. Father, transform my life from one of shame or hidden struggles into a testimony of Your redeeming mercy.
11. Lord, as the spies showed kindness to Rahab, show me practical mercy and open doors of favor today.
12. Help me to extend the same mercy I have received — let me show kindness to the unlikely and the broken around me.
13. Holy Spirit, search my heart and remove every barrier of doubt that prevents me from fully trusting in Your mercy.
14. Release fresh mercy into every area of condemnation, guilt, or past mistakes in my life right now.
15. Make me a channel of Your mercy — use my story, like Rahab’s, to draw others to faith in You.
16. Guard my household with the scarlet cord of covenant protection; let Your angels encamp around us.
17. Surprise me with divine opportunities today to demonstrate mercy and faith to someone in need.
18. Transform my life into a living testimony of Joshua 2 — rescued by mercy and woven into Your greater purpose.
19. Deliver me from self-righteousness; fill me with humble compassion for those society considers unworthy.
20. I praise You in advance for the mercy, protection, and new beginning that flow from Your unfailing love!
21. By the blood of Jesus, flood my life with mercy, forgiveness, and the boldness to live out my faith openly.
22. Shatter every wall of limitation or judgment in my life; let Your mercy bring me into enlargement and freedom.
23. Personalize this day: Declare boldly over specific areas or relationships (mention them aloud) where you need to receive or release God’s mercy right now.
24. Pray for the global Church: that believers will embrace God’s mercy toward the unlikely, the broken, and the outsider — just as He showed to Rahab — and become bold witnesses who extend compassion instead of condemnation.
25. Pray for Apostle Momo Promise and Zion Flames Prophetic and Intercessory Ministries — that God’s mercy will flood us afresh according to Joshua 2, protect us like Rahab’s household, create bold faith in us, mark us for deliverance and favor, remove every barrier, add fresh fruitfulness and strength to the assignment, protect our calling, multiply miracles, enlarge our reach with the gospel of mercy, breathe fresh fire into the ministry, and propel us into greater authority, favor, and a global harvest of souls.
