"It is of the Lord's mercies that we are not consumed, because his compassions fail not. They are new every morning: great is thy faithfulness."
*Sermon:* Mercy is God's loving-kindness extended to us, even when we fall short. Lamentations 3:22-23 reminds us that His mercies are new every morning. This means that no matter how many times we fail, stumble, or feel unworthy, God's compassion never runs dry. His mercy is like a river that flows continuously, washing away our guilt and empowering us to rise again.
Think about the story of David. In 2 Samuel 12, after his sin with Bathsheba, David deserved judgment. Yet, God extended mercy, sparing his life and restoring his purpose. That same David, through God's mercy, went on to lead Israel to great victories and write psalms that still inspire us today. Mercy does not excuse sin; it transforms sinners into vessels for God's glory. The Bible declares in Daniel 11:32 (KJV), "...but the people that do know their God shall be strong, and do exploits." Exploits are extraordinary acts that go beyond human ability, and they are rooted in knowing God—particularly His mercy. When we grasp the depth of God's mercy, it ignites faith, courage, and boldness to step into the impossible.
Consider Moses. In Exodus 3, he was a fugitive, hiding in Midian, filled with self-doubt. Yet, God's mercy called him to confront Pharaoh and lead Israel out of Egypt. Moses didn't feel qualified, but God's mercy qualified him for an unusual exploit—the parting of the Red Sea! God's mercy takes our weaknesses and turns them into platforms for His power.
