1 Sam 4:19-22
19 And his daughter in law, Phinehas' wife, was with child, near to be delivered: and when she heard the tidings that the ark of God was taken, and that her father in law and her husband were dead, she bowed herself and travailed; for her pains came upon her.
20 And about the time of her death the women that stood by her said unto her, Fear not; for thou hast born a son. But she answered not, neither did she regard it.
21 And she named the child Ichabod, saying, The glory is departed from Israel: because the ark of God was taken, and because of her father in law and her husband.
22 And she said, The glory is departed from Israel: for the ark of God is taken
Sermon: The spirit of Ichabod symbolizes departed glory. The wife of Phinehas was in labor when she heard that the ark of covenant had been taken from Isreal by the Philistines, and also that her husband had died in battle, this incident made her call the child Ichabod, meaning "the glory has departed". There are those whose situation is an Ichabod situation, they are alive but the glory is taken, because the glory of God has been taken the presence of God to combat the Philistines that have come to steal their glory, the absence of Glory is the presence of trouble. Prayer is the key to glory restoration, when Jabez saw his situation, he had to cry to God in the place of prayer 1 Chron 4:10 "And Jabez called on the God of Israel, saying, Oh that thou wouldest bless me indeed, and enlarge my coast, and that thine hand might be with me, and that thou wouldest keep me from evil, that it may not grieve me" God answered the prayer of Jabez and turned his situation around.
